You can always thank my husband for finding places to eat on our trips. He is usually responsible for making Google Maps lists for everything from restaurants to cafes to cultural sites. Here are a few restaurants in San Cristobal de las Casas to try based on where we ate, and a few that are on our list. For more on San Cristobal de las Casas, check out my related posts: Esquina San Augustin Esquina San Augustin isn’t a restaurant, but rather a high-end food court in San Cristobal de las Casas. We discovered it on our first day there…

In November 2023 my husband and I spent three days in San Cristobal de las Casas roaming the city, taking tours, eating chocolate, and enjoying this lesser known area of Mexico. San Cristobal de las Casas is the tourist destination of the Southernmost state of Mexico, Chiapas. Introduction to San Cristobal de las Casas The state of Chiapas is one of the more unknown and untamed places in Mexico, with several towns that have their own rules and laws separate from Mexico, an abundance of nature and a border with Guatemala. Chiapas is relatively known for it’s landscape and hiking…

Introduction to San Juan Chamula & Tips for Visiting A visit to the church of San Juan Bautista, or Templo de San Juan Bautista, is truly an experience. For me, it is the most interesting church in Mexico, and possibly the most interesting church I’ve ever visited. The church is located in San Juan Chamula, an indigenous community with unique customs about 20 miles from San Cristobal de las Casas. A few things: This is the tour we took, which I highly recommend. For more on San Cristobal de las Casas, see my post A 3-Day Itinerary for San Cristobal…

Roma Norte is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Mexico City for expats and tourists alike. In addition, it has some of the best restaurants. We often go to this neighborhood on the weekends simply to eat. There are so many good restaurants in Roma Norte to try. I want to stress that I have been to all of these restaurants, and I know there are more. This is not a comprehensive list. It is a list of some of my favorite places across a range price points. So check back as I continue to eat my way through…

For a Mexico City itinerary, check out my post, A Beginner’s Guide to Three Days in Mexico City. Here are a few of the best restaurants in Condesa, and my go-to spots. These are restaurants my husband and I go to regularly. El Greco Taqueria ($) One…

A long weekend in Oaxaca is a feast for the senses. Oaxaca City is, in my opinion, one of the cultural hubs of Mexico. Best known for it’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festivities, it has much to offer any time of the year. For me, it’s in my top three destinations in Mexico, and I’m eager to return to explore all that it has to offer. Beyond that, the food. The food in Oaxaca is some of the best in Mexico. Even the smallest, most unassuming restaurants serve flavor like you’ve never experienced. I’m so excited…

Life took us on a weekend trip to Antigua, Guatemala by chance. We went there because it had the fastest processing times for my husband’s Mexican visa. We spent one day in Guatemala City, and then we spent a weekend in Antigua for fun. Most people skip Guatemala City and go directly to Antigua and Lake Atitlan. We only had time for one this trip, so we chose Antigua. However, we are heading back to see Lake Atitlan in March 2024!
